This summer, more than 30% of all Canadians & Americans will take a family vacation. While some of those families will fly across the country or around the world for far-flung adventures, many others will enjoy quiet retreats at summer homes. Whether it's an out of town cabin, a cottage by the beach, or a small shack by the lake, these summer homes require just as much (if not more) care and maintenance as your primary residence.
Although it seems counter-intuitive, unused structures suffer just as much damage as lived-in ones. In fact, they're often in worse shape when left standing empty due to environmental factors. When sun, rain, and wind damage aren't dealt with in a timely fashion, the building falls to pieces.
While corner guards won't keep your summer home from falling to the ground between visits, it will ensure that your interior edges are kept safe all year long. Whether your seasonal home is used to host hunting parties, girls' weekends, or family retreats, it's sure to see its share of wear and tear -- even more so if you rent or loan your property out to a third party. Luggage, coolers, and other supplies being dragged in and out are just the beginning.
While the potential for damage shouldn't cause you undue concern, you should take proper steps to ensure that your vulnerable corners and edges are protected. A small investment could reap great rewards down the road.
